For HB and CTS we normally start your claim from the Monday after you first made contact with us or the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), but only if you return a properly completed claim form within one month of us issuing it.The letter we will send you will explain what to do if you think that the decision we have made is wrong.The date your claim will start depends on how and when you claim HB or CTS.There are separate rules for pensioners and for people of working age. Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction is normally awarded from the Monday after the day you made your claim.However, sometimes we can pay from an earlier date.
