Apple has an incredible string of successes with the i Pod, i Tunes Music Store, Safari, and i Apps.

I suggest that the company focus on the ease-of-use factors and digital lifestyle apps and let the speed Geeks debate the fastest computer issue on the boards. – by Mr Magoop Faster doesn't always mean better comparing OS's open source or not.

There are, and will always be, the holy wars in computer processing, and I can't think of a logical explanation as to just why Apple wants to start this up.

I guess Jobs and company think they can get more media attention.

Apple is touting the new dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 as the “world's fastest personal computer,” and has stirred up quite a serious controversy in the process.I took a look at the specifics of the Veri Test report, comparisons at AMDZone and SPL's soapbox, and a CNET article (thanks to Manu for some of the links). Before they go touting off off how much better the G5 is, they should at least use it against WINDOWS!! They basically proved that, with proprietary hardware on proprietary. When you get in the real world speed is only half of the issue, uptime is the other half of the equation.Lemme make a few quotes from “Apple/Veritest used a special fast malloc library on the G5 benchmark, but did not use it on the Dell/Intel benchmark, thus giving the G5 an unfair advantage. If you are missing either of those in a buisiness enviroment it equals a really unhappy user or customer.

I'm thinking that Apple might have done better not to try and bang on the drum by saying the dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 was the fastest and just focus on what the company is doing best: delivering a faster Mac with some really nice future potential.

Maybe Apple could have evolved the “MHz Myth” into the “GHz Myth,” or better yet just left it alone.
