Remoting into ubuntu 14.04 LTS from ubuntu 12.04 LTS using either Remmina Remote Desktop or Gtk VNC Viewer did not work. Then restarting and logging into 3D in 12.04 worked.I am currently logging into 12.04 in 3D mode, then remoting into 12.04 from 12.04 using Remmina Remote Desktop. I use vnc mainly from windows (7 ultimate) (tightvnc viewer or real vnc viewer), and my vnc (vino) server is on opensuse 11.2. Of course it works better with low-graphics-mode, and it ofc it's crazy if you don't have good connection. -- Cheers Malcolm (Linux Counter #276890) SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (x86_64) Kernel up 3 days , 3 users, load average: 0.44, 0.20, 0.13 GPU Ge Force 8600 GTS Silent - CUDA Driver Version: 190.18 Sorry, I have this little thing I forgot to mention. The thing is, I really could run eye candy perfectly well before open SUSE 11.2.

Usually it happens with an old laptop I've put Ubuntu on but now it's happening on my primary dev machine (a quad-core PC recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 desktop).

Hello, I've noticed that after updating opensuse to 11.2 from 11.1 vino is slighly different by its layout. My problem is that when I connect to vnc (from windows with tightvnc viewer), it asks password normally, and let me log in, but when the screen has "rendered" from up to down, it doesn't update it any more. I tried out realvnc as well, but it seems it is not in the viewer. I have correct ports open and so, just like before. But now I can't run it at all (or can, but it only shows you the picture without refreshing any changes I make), not in low-mode, not with anything.

It let me move the mouse, and if I test it locally from other computer in LAN, I see the mouse moving and text appearing when typing and windows moving when moving, but no changes in vnc viewer screen! Seems odd that there is no fix for this, because this is obviously bug in opensuse 11.2/vino.

On the remote machine the command "gsettings get org.gnome. I believe starting the initial session in 2D mode at least one time was the key.

The problem is this - I can connect to the machine and login with the password, the initial screen looks fine but never refreshes.I can see the monitor for the machine across the room and can see the mouse move and the menus pop up but the image of the screen on the PC in front me running the VNC viewer never updates. I think it is an Ubuntu config issue because this PC used to work just fine with 9.04, 10.04, and 11.10 (over the past couple of years).
